What the Data Actually Showed

Sleep was the headline — confirmed both by how participants felt and by what their Oura Rings recorded every night.

Statistically Significant · p < 0.01

Objective Sleep Improvements — Wearable Verified

The Oura Ring tracked sleep all night without knowing which beverage each participant drank. In the Everyday Dose group, it recorded the two strongest biometric signals of the entire study: significantly better sleep efficiency and significantly less time lying awake. Neither the regular coffee nor the decaf group showed these changes.

Waking Up Feeling More Rested

By Week 8, Everyday Dose participants reported significantly more refreshing sleep. Notably, there was no change at Week 4 — the improvement only appeared in the second half, consistent with how adaptogenic ingredients like lion's mane work through gradual, cumulative effects.

Positive Trend

Calmer Energy Without the Jitters

~50mg caffeine — roughly half of regular coffee — paired with L-theanine promotes calm, focused alertness. Fatigue trended lower in the Everyday Dose group, and multiple participants independently reported smoother, less jittery energy without being asked.

Qualitative Signal

Gentler on the Gut

Multiple participants spontaneously reported improved GI comfort — fewer IBS-like symptoms, less stomach irritation, more regular digestion. These weren't captured in group averages, suggesting a strong individual responder effect in people with GI sensitivity to conventional coffee.

Why the Sleep Results Matter

Dual confirmation — self-reported feeling plus objective biometric data — is rare and meaningful in clinical research.

Why the delay?

The Adaptogen Effect

Lion's mane and adaptogens don't act like caffeine. They work gradually — supporting neuroplasticity and calming the HPA axis over weeks. No change at Week 4, meaningful improvement by Week 8 — this aligns precisely with the hypothesized mechanism.

Wearable confirmation

The Ring Doesn't Know What You Drank

That's what makes objective data valuable. The Oura Ring recorded that Everyday Dose participants spent 7.7 fewer minutes awake per night with better sleep efficiency — the only group to show significant wearable improvement.

The decaf finding

Dropping Caffeine Isn't the Answer

The decaf group saw less fatigue — possibly from reduced caffeine load. But their deep sleep, REM sleep, and HRV all declined significantly. Cutting caffeine disrupted sleep architecture. Everyday Dose improved it.

What Participants Said

In Their Own Words

Methodology

How This Study Was Built

A randomized controlled trial is the gold standard for proving whether something works. Here's what made this one credible.

🎲

Randomized Assignment

Participants were randomly assigned — not self-selected. Eliminates selection bias and makes the groups genuinely comparable.

⚖️

Active Controls

Two real-world comparisons — regular coffee and decaf — rather than a placebo, testing Everyday Dose against actual alternatives.

Wearable Biometrics

Oura Ring data collected every night, independently of self-reports. 20K+ daily data points across the study.

Important Context

All participants were healthy adults without major health complaints. When people are already doing well, it's harder to show large statistical improvements — which makes the sleep findings even more notable.
This was an exploratory trial — results are designed to generate hypotheses and guide future research. A well-conducted RCT is strong evidence, but not the final word.
Between-group differences (Everyday Dose vs. the others) did not reach statistical significance for most survey measures. Significant sleep results were driven by strong within-group change in the Everyday Dose arm.
About 32% of participants dropped out before completing 8 weeks — a normal rate for this type of study, but worth noting when interpreting results.
